Now that you have completed Act 1, you have identified the setting, the protagonist (who should be your audience), the pain the protagonist is experiencing, the desired outcome and the solution to get there.  You have established the tone and focus of your message.  You have established an emotional connection with your audience.

The Sounds of Silence

In presentations, nothing makes a statement louder than silence.  If you have a statement that you want to drive home, make a point to cloak the statement in brief moments of silence.

George Torok is an executive speech coach out of Burlington Ontario, Canada.  His most recent blog talks about an exercise one can use to calm themselves before making their next presentation.  This is a great little exercise that carries much weight in calming you down and getting you grounded.(or centered as he says.)

Have you ever sat through a presentation and at the end asked, “What was the point of that?”  I’m willing to bet the farm that if you asked the presenter the exact same question, they too would have to think about it before the gave you an answer.
